Below is the Emotional Poster deliverable for 3D. The model is that of the butterfly boy from the first Assignment.

Week 11: Rendering and Lighting

In this tutorial class we looked at the rendering and lighting effects of 3D max.
Using an image provided to us, we used the image as a background to give the effect of any objects added to appear part of the image.
It was then after using different lighting effects and rendering effects I was able to five the impression that the objects are casting reflections onto the table in the background.

Assignment 2: Research Kevlar
Below is my research into Kevlar, the light weight material used more commonly for body armor. I have looked at this for the possible application of armor pieces for the compression suit:
· Kevlar is the registered trademark for a para-aramid synthetic fiber, related to other aramids such as Nomex and Technora. Developed at DuPont in 1965, this high strength material was first commercially used in the early 1970s as a replacement for steel in racing tires. Typically it is spun into ropes or fabric sheets that can be used as such or as an ingredient in composite material components.
· Currently, Kevlar has many applications, ranging from bicycle tires and racing sails to body armour because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio; by this measure it is 5 times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis. It is also used to make modern drumheads that hold up withstanding high impact. When used as a woven material, it is suitable for mooring lines and other underwater applications.
· A similar fiber called Twaron with roughly the same chemical structure was developed by Akzo in the 1970s; commercial production started in 1986, and Twaron is now manufactured by Teijin.

Assignment 2: Research
Below is some research that I found that relates to my chosen idea:
These garments are often
made from a spandex-type
material.
The main benefits of
compression sportswear is that it keeps the muscles warm to prevent muscle
strain and fatigue, and wick sweat away from the body to prevent chafing and
rashes. In addition, there is some evidence that compression shorts may enhance
athletic performance.
For certain
sports, like baseball and softball,
come with padding at the hips to protect players from injuries due to sliding.
The alleged benefit of wearing
compression tights is:
§ Reducing the time
taken for muscles to repair themselves
The early studies
on compression clothing mainly looked the reduction of thrombosis in
hospitalised patients, but when it was found that these garments increased
venous blood flow to the extremities of the body, sports scientists began to
investigate the effect of compression clothing on athletic performance.
In 2003, another
study demonstrated that explosive/sprint athletes wearing compression shorts
suffered less muscle oscillation during the landing phase and were able to
increase their countermovement jump heights compared with ordinary shorts2. There’s evidence that these benefits
occurred as a result of enhanced perception of joint movement and spatial
location, via neural feedback (known as proprioception).
Areas for my New
Under Armour:
·
Prevents muscle strain and fatigue by keeping
muscles warm – Heat sensors?
·
Enhanced Athletic performance- Increase in
muscle density (fibre)?
·
Padding to protect players- More advanced
applications for military use?
·
Reducing time on muscle repair- Rapid healing?
Gel layer for healing (Nano tech)
·
Increases blood flow- Healing
·
Enhanced joint movement
Assignment 2: Chosen Idea
For this project I have decided to focus on designing a new type of compression top to enhance athlete performance. I also intend to expand this design into other areas such as medical and military.
Assignment 2: Living State Products
For this project I intend to look at products that effect the human anatomy, such as healing gels for skin and prosthetic limbs and to give them more life like qualities. I will also be designing in the idea of more advanced technology. For this project I have come up with a few ideas:
Week 7: Particle Effects
This week we worked physics such as bomb and wave effects. Using a model of a blood cell and using an animation path we created multiple blood cells editing the particle effects.

Examples Of Emotional Connection:
In this post I look at similar emotional connections to one I have concieved for the Butterfly boy. On the left and image from the Movie "My Dog Skip", based around a shy boy with no friends but gains a new best friend, his dog named Skip.

On the right an image from the disney movie, Aladdin. Aladdin is described as a "Street rat" meaning poor, homeless or vagrant and is seen as a social outcast. But with his best friend "Abu" a monkey that helps him in his daily life.

Render: Test 2
For the rest of the assignment I have decided to work on the drawing known as "The Butterfly Boy". It is my understanding that the boy in this sketch is a social outcast because of his monstrous disfigurement (His left arm) and thus makes him alone and isolated from the rest of the world. It is the butterfly that he admires, a pet but more as a friend the butterfly boy adopts the wings similar of his companion to maybe escape the world that judges him and to fly away to something greater.
The image below is a more revised look at the butterfly boy I attempted earlier. I have added more features to give it a more 3D look such as shadows, better colour and background. It is still a work in progress but I think it is coming along nicely.

Week 2: Alien Face
Week 2:
In this week we looked at making an alien head with more of a cartoon look. Using a capsule, cutting it in half and turning it into a editable polygon I cut out an eye socket using the cut tool and then shaping it.
Then using mirror I then added two spheres for eyes for the alien head.
Using the editable poly and using the polygon option I selected the individual polygons and extruded them.

Research: Butterflies

The images below show my research into looking at the shape of the wings and body of a butterfly. This will help me in my assignment for the look of the butterfly and the shape of the wings on the butterfly boys legs.

Week 1:

First week of 3D Product and Character Design had me working on building a character using front and side view sketches of the character and then imported onto planes within in 3D max. Using a cylinder to start and making it an editable polygon, I extruded it and scaling the polygons up to the hip of the character. And then using the vertexes I shaped the leg to match the sketch.
Just the same as shaping the leg in side view, I did the same with the front and shaped the leg using the vertexes on the leg.

Test Renders for Assignment
For the first assignment we are to make 3D models of sketches done by children and developing these further to give a sense of 3D form. To practice this I chosen two of the drawings and added colour to give a better sense of 3D form. I did this using Adobe Sketchbook designer which is a relatively new program for me to use but still very handy.
